7,200 DOGS FROM ALL OVER THE WORLD
WILL MEET IN PORTUGAL, IN JUNE 2001

For the first time, in 2001 Portugal welcomes the World Dog Show, at Oporto.

Organised by the Clube Português de Canicultura (The Portuguese Kennel Club), the World Dog Show 2001 will take place at the Oporto International Ehxibition Centre (Exponor), from 8th to 10th June.

7,180 dogs representing 290 Breeds from 50 countries of all over the World will be in Portugal at the World Dog Show 2001.

With some rare Breeds in Portugal as well as in some other countries, top entries at the World Dog Show 2001 are the Rottweilers (196), Poodles (170), Golden Retrievers (158), Boxers (153), Great Danes (155), Siberian Huskies (141), Cocker Spaniels (136), American Staffordshire Terriers (131), Giant Schnauzers (110), Scottish Terriers (96), Labrador Retrievers (95), German Shepherd Dogs (90), Yorkshire Terriers (85), Medium Schnauzers (80) and Alaskan Malamutes (75).

Also the Portuguese Breeds are well represented at the World Dog Show 2001.
More than 250 dogs - several of them coming from Europe and United States from America -, top entries at the Portuguese Breeds are the Serra da Estrela Mountain Dog / Cão da Serra da Estrela (73), Saint Miguel Cattle Dog / Cão de Fila de São Miguel (42), Portuguese Sheepdogs / Cão da Serra de Aires (37), Portuguese Warren Hounds / Podengos Portugueses (32), Portuguese Water Dog / Cão de Água (29), Castro Laboreiro Dog / Cão de Castro Laboreiro and the Portuguese Pointing Dog / Perdigueiro Português (both with 16 entries) and the Alentejo Mastiff / Rafeiro do Alentejo (6).

The Show will have a structure of 290 people, such as Judges (82, from 25 countries), Ring Stewards (107), Show Secretaries, Exhibitors Support Services, Visitors Information Desks, Medical Centre, Veterinary Assistance, Computer Services, Press Offices, Sound, Lights and Video teams, and Security.

More than 80 institutional and trade stands will be present, covering a wide range of pet products and services, that also will interest all exhibitors and the expected 40,000 visitors of the World Dog Show 2001.

Portuguese Breed Associations also will have their own stands for promoting their Breeds, as well as to inform about them all international visitors and the 250 Reporters, Photographers and TV crews accredited from Australia, Brazil, Canada, several European countries, Japan and United States of America.

At the 32 Rings of the World Dog Show 2001 Breed judgements will start every day at 9:30 am and in the afternoon, Junior Handlers and Group Finals will take place at the wide Main Ring.

In afternoon, Sunday, June 10th, in the Main Ring also will take place the Show Finals as well as the Official F.C.I. Flag transference from Portugal to Holland, organizer of the World Dog Show 2002.

Several Portuguese musical and cultural events also will be displayed in the Main Ring and all the activities will be broadcasted by video walls and television sets to all places of the Oporto Exhibition Centre.

Coinciding with the World Dog Show 2001, by the first time in Portugal also will take place at Exponor the World Obedience Championship 2001, with several National Teams from Europe and South America countries.
